In basketball, for young talent to showcase their capabilities, there is no better tournament than the NCAA, and this year too, we have had exciting NCAA games. One of the names striking out of the competition is Brice Sensabaugh.
Playing for Ohio State, Brice remained one of the top players of the tournament. Standing 6’6” and weighing 240 pounds, Sensabaugh played multiple positions for Lake Highland Prep, but he prefers playing at the number three position.
Winning the Mr. Florida basketball award in his senior year, Brice caught everyone’s attention. He averaged 25.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game during that period. The talk of the town was in blistering form until he had a serious knee injury in high school.
Brice Sensabaugh’s Parents
Born on October 30, 2003, Brice always had the backing of his parents in his dream game. They even shifted closer to his basketball gym, allowing Brice to have extra practice sessions. His mother, Keisa Sensabaugh, worked as an upper school administrative assistant at Lake Highland.
The Orlando-born star had offers from Alabama, Georgia Tech, and Florida, while Ohio Buckeyes made a late offer for his services. But Brice’s father, Gerrard Sensabaugh being an alumnus at Ohio State landed the talented star ahead of their competitors. Brice’s father is a native of Columbus and he still got relatives in Columbus.
Talking about his family, Brice said in an interview, “My uncle and my dad were nice. My uncle played college basketball at Eastern Kentucky and my dad, he never really played organized because he had to take care of my uncle — he’s his little brother.” With sports running in the family, Brice aims to go big in NBA. He mentioned that most of his family are football players. He also has family members who were in the NFL.
Although Brice’s mother is not directly related to the ball game, his father did play for Ohio State in his collegiate days. Brice also remained the top player for the team winning three consecutive Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week awards. He also found a place in the third-team All-Big Ten and the Big Ten All-Freshman team at the end of the regular season.
Offensive-minded Sensabaugh is an explosive athlete. He has a strong build and excels at driving to the basket. His dunks and ability to finish around the rim give him an edge over many other young stars of his age. But Brice does not only play in the paint area, he possesses perimeter skills as well, he has a repertoire of moves to create separation and get his shot off.
Defensively also Brice is a dependable player. He can defend on the wings and also near the rim area with his size and athletic abilities.
Brice had an exceptional season becoming one of seven freshmen since 2003 to average 15 or more points with above-average shooting. He shot 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from the long range. Brice remained very efficient from the charity line maintaining 80 percent accuracy. This amazing feat was earlier achieved by NBA superstars like Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Lauri Markkanen, Ben McLemore, and Mike Daum.
This would give some idea about the ceiling Brice could reach, entering into the league.
