Baer Jr was raised in a family he is famous for boxing as his father Max Baer Sr was a World Heavyweight Champion whose career boasted a 63-13 win-loss record. Additionally, his uncle Buddy Baer was also a boxer, although he also happened to be an actor.

Baer Jr. received his education in Sacramento from the Christian Brothers High School. While there he was so good with sports that he got letters in four different sports. He was particularly good at golf, twice winning the junior title at the Sacramento Open golf tournament. He later went to Santa Clara University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in philosophy.
