According to a report from Us Weekly, Eva Mendes initially wasn’t interested in having children until she met the love of her life, Ryan Gosling. In the latest issue of Women’s Health, the Once Upon A Time In Mexico star said that she didn’t want kids but then “Ryan Gosling happened.”

Eva said to the outlet that it made sense for her to have “his kids” but not “kids” – emphasis on the word ‘his.’ It was very specific for him, the star remarked. Now, Eva has two children with Ryan, Esmeralda, and Amada who are 4-years-old and 2-years-old respectively.

There’s no question that there are challenging parts to parenthood, however. In fact, Eva joked with the reporter that she and her man were “just getting out of survival mode.”

Things are finally slowing down to the point where she feels as though she’s a “person again.” Speaking on the travails of parenthood, Eva said every day is a “learning experience.”

The one thing that bothers her the most is the effects of fame. “The whole fame component is super scary,” Eva stated, adding that she doesn’t like her kids seeing her put a ton of effort into her appearence. Simply put, there are certain situations she would rather not have her kids see her in.

Last year, in November of 2018, a source who spoke with Us Weekly claimed that Mendes and Gosling are “extremely private,” and like to keep the media out of their lives as much as possible.

For one, Ryan doesn’t like to hang out with other celebrities in public that often because then there is an unnecessary amount of attention on him and thus his family. The insider said to the outlet, “Ryan wants to keep his private life out of the public’s” eye.

As fans of the couple know, they first came together eight years ago on the set of The Place Beyond The Pines, the 2012 film starring Ryan, Eva, and Bradley Cooper. The movie was critically acclaimed and successful at the box office as well for not only its pacing and acting but also for its characters and music.

Directed by Derek Cianfrance, the movie explored the intergenerational effects of the actions of a father on his sons. Even though The Place Beyond The Pines came out before Ryan had children, he did a great job of personifying a father whose love sometimes goes too far.
