King of the Tabloids

Pecker is CEO of American Media, Inc. which in 2018 owned the following publications: Flex, Globe, Men's Fitness, Men's Journal, Muscle & Fitness, Muscle & Fitness Hers, National Enquirer, National Examiner, OK!, RadarOnline.com, Soap Opera Digest, Star, and Us Weekly. In the past it has also owned: Autoworld Weekly, Country Music, Country Weekly, Fit Pregnancy, Natural Health, Pixie, Shape, Soap Opera Weekly, Stallone, Sun, and Weekly World News.

Tabloid Tales

On November 4, 2016 it was reported that American Media, Inc. had previously paid $150,000 to former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal for exclusive rights to her story about an alleged affair with Donald Trump. Once exclusivity had been obtained, the story was apparently killed. In February 2018 several former A.M.I. employees claimed that this is not the only time the 'catch and kill' method of purchasing a story in order to bury it had been employed by A.M.I.

Biohazard

The headquarters of tabloids the National Enquirer and the Sun were the target of an anthrax attack in 2001, resulting in the death of British employee Bob Stevens, and a second man who worked in the mailroom, Ernesto Blanco, who was also found to have anthrax spores in his nasal cavity. Luckily Mr. Blanco survived the exposure. The culprit was never caught.
